THE JOTUNHEIM GIANTS

I'm pleased to be part of the 9 Realms project, run by the brilliant Artipeeps.  The project is bringing together a number of artists, poets and musicians to bring the world of Norse mythology to life.

I've been working on the realm of Jotunheim - the giants. My final piece, which will form part of the 9 Realms exhibition later this year, takes a mountain giant and places him in a more modern industrial setting in the Rhondda Valley of South Wales.  My earlier preparatory piece, made while I was formulating my ideas, saw a (much smaller) giant hiding in the Madeira Walk waterfall in Ramsgate, Kent.

More information on how you can be a part of bringing 9 Realms to life, and receive some great perks for your contribution, at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-nine-realms

BALANCE

I've been working with ace local musician Dan Turnbull aka Funke and the Two Tone Baby on the cover art for his new album - "Balance". I was lucky enough to work on his first studio album "Battles" and I'm delighted that the relationship has continued.

The chap in the Balance image is Charles Scott Sherrington, Nobel Prize winning physiologist and the first person to understand and describe the role of the brain and nervous system in keeping us balanced (physically rather than emotionally!). More info on him here.

SOLO SHOW

So for a week in early February I had an entire gallery space to myself for the first time. York Street Gallery in Ramsgate is a gem of a place, run with great gusto by the brilliant Mike Samson (a rather fine artist in his own right). I had 30 of my linocut pieces in the show, along with the dinghy sail featuring a blown up version of "Rescue 3" - one of my linocuts depicting a coal mine rescue worker - hanging from the gallery's lighting rig.  The show looked great, if I say so myself, with some sales and lots of new friends and contacts made.  I'm suffering the inevitable post-show blues but looking forward to my next show, a group exhibition at the Horsebridge Centre in Whitstable from 3rd - 10th June. I'm also keeping busy with the next album cover for the brilliant Funke and the Two Tone Baby and planning a new series of prints based on more exhibits from London's Natural History Musuem.  Have a look at the York Street Gallery site for details of upcoming shows and follow them on Facebook.

Off The Barrow is a brilliant web-based creative network that aims to give exposure and support to artists and designers. They kindly ran a showcase article on my work recently.

In other news, I'm busy on some new palaeontology inspired pieces and will be submitting them for a number of group shows taking place over the Spring.  Watch this space for further details.

Well here goes 2014. I've started the year off on a high note, bagging myself a new "Blue Boy" tabletop press, made by Baker Fabrication, and what a beauty it is. Here is the first print produced on the press, entitled "Nevermore" and designed as an illustration to Edgar Allan Poe's gothic masterpiece "The Raven." It's a two color print, made using the reduction or "suicide" method and in an edition of just 10 prints.  More info on the Blue Boy here.

I'm chuffed to be finishing off an exciting year with a 2 month residency at Deeson Creative - a creative communications consultancy - in Canterbury. I have 18 prints hanging around the office, meeting rooms and other areas of the building.  As part of the project I answered a few questions for them, so have a look at my answers for a bit more of a clue about my motivation.

I was really pleased to attend the launch of the Lines Underwater poetry anthology on Saturday, to see an exhibition of the artwork produced for the project and to hear contributions from some of the poets and songwriters. The anthology is available from the Poems Underwater site and limited hand-pulled prints of My Underwater Love, along with t-shirts and other items, are now available from my shop.
